Treatment depends on whether it is ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke as follows.
Several approaches are available for ischemic stroke. In some cases, thrombolytics may be prescribed to break up or dissolve clots.
For hemorrhagic stroke, surgery may be performed to prevent possible brain damage.

Prevention
Control risk factors for stroke, including diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking or lack of exercise.
Get annual health check-up to identify risk factors.
Avoid foods high in salt, fat and sugar.
Those found with risk factors should follow their doctors’ treatment plans, taking medications regularly and seeking medical advice immediately when facing unusual symptoms.
Maintain healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Exercise regularly, at least 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week.
Refrain from smoking and avoid alcoholic beverages.
